Sprint 5

September 21 – October 4, 2026

4 updates

  1. Security hardening across the platform

Alongside new features, the last month included work you won’t see but your security team will appreciate.

    • Tenant-separated inference. Requests to the model are authenticated per tenant, and each tenant’s model cache is kept separate.
    • Short-lived credentials. Services authenticate with automatically rotating workload identity tokens instead of long-lived stored secrets.
    • Cleaner logs. Credentials are stripped from request logs.
    • Patching at build time. Operating-system security updates are applied every time Timberline’s services are built.
  2. Governed web search

Some questions need current public information, such as a newly published guideline or a payer announcement. Timberline can now search the public web, under controls designed for regulated environments.

    • Off by default. Web search is a single workspace-level setting, and only administrators with a specific permission can turn it on, after a confirmation step.
    • Identifiers stay inside. Identifying details are removed from a search query before it leaves your Timberline environment.
    • Audited and fail-safe. Every change to the setting is recorded, and if the setting can’t be read, search stays off.
    • Clearly labeled. An indicator shows when web search is available, and web sources are marked as such in citations.
  3. Password sign-in with multi-factor authentication

Organizations that don’t use single sign-on can now sign in to Timberline with a password, protected by the same controls you’d expect from an SSO provider.

    • Multi-factor authentication with any standard authenticator app. It is recommended by default, and administrators can require it.
    • Accounts lock after repeated failed attempts.
    • Passwords known to have appeared in public breaches are refused. The check never sends your full password anywhere.
    • New users set their password through a one-time setup link, and administrators can reset a user’s MFA from the Access panel.
    • “Forgot password” responds the same way for every address, so it can’t be used to discover who has an account.

SSO remains available and recommended for organizations that have it.

  4. More faithful answers to coverage and policy questions

When Timberline answers a coverage or policy question, the details have to match the source. This release focuses on exactly that.

    • Citations point to the right page. In our testing, citations to the wrong page fell by more than half.
    • Conditions are checked against the source. When an answer restates a policy condition, Timberline compares it with the source’s own wording and corrects meaningful drift before you see it.
    • One answer, one story. An answer can no longer state the same requirement two different ways.
    • Sources keep their authority. Something a letter or a party asserts is no longer presented as though it were a policy requirement.

Every answer still arrives in full. Nothing is withheld for the sake of perfect verification, and your team remains the reviewer of record.

Sprint 4

September 7 – 20, 2026

4 updates

  1. Projects and secure sharing

Ongoing work now has a place to live. Projects keep related conversations, documents, and context together, so a case review or policy analysis doesn’t have to start from scratch each time.

Work in Timberline is private by default. You can now share a project or an individual conversation with specific colleagues, under a new authorization model that controls exactly who can see and do what.

The workspace navigation has also been reorganized around projects, with a resizable sidebar.

  2. Spreadsheets, presentations, and scanned documents

Timberline can now read more of the material healthcare teams actually work with. Spreadsheets keep their rows and columns, presentations keep their slides, and text is recognized in scanned images and pages.

When you attach several documents to one message, each keeps its own identity, so answers and citations tell you which document a detail came from.

  3. Checked citations and source previews

An answer is only as useful as your ability to check it. Timberline now verifies each citation against the source it points to before the answer reaches you.

    • Select a citation to preview the passage it refers to, without leaving the conversation.
    • A reviewed-sources view lists everything an answer drew on.
    • A readable source pane shows the full context, with a raw-text view when you need the exact wording.
  4. CMS coverage references, built into the workspace

Timberline now includes a versioned library of CMS coverage material, so questions about Medicare coverage can be answered from the source rather than from memory.

    • National coverage determinations take precedence when sources overlap.
    • National coverage analysis records are included, giving the history behind a determination.
    • Tables keep their structure, so criteria and code lists stay readable.
    • Citations follow a consistent format, making it easier to find the passage and check it.

Sprint 3

August 24 – September 6, 2026

3 updates

  1. Drafts ready to copy

When you ask Timberline to write something you’ll send, such as an appeal letter, a reply to a provider, or a message to a member, the text now appears in a separate draft block with its own Copy button. The surrounding explanation stays in the conversation; only the deliverable text goes to your clipboard.

  2. Invitation-only access and an Access panel for administrators

Signing in to Timberline no longer creates an account. A person needs an existing account or an invitation from an administrator, and accounts are matched to your identity provider’s unique user ID rather than an email address that could be reused.

The new Access panel lets tenant administrators:

    • invite people and manage pending invitations
    • see and manage the members of your workspace
    • remove people who no longer need access

Administration is deliberately separate from the work itself. The Access panel and the administrative API show who has access, never the content of anyone’s conversations.

  3. Attach Word documents

Word documents can now be attached to a conversation alongside PDFs. Policies, procedures, and correspondence often live in Word, and now you can bring them straight into Timberline without converting them first.

As with every attachment, Timberline keeps the extracted text rather than the original file, and deletes it along with its conversation.

Sprint 2

August 10 – 23, 2026

1 update

  1. Work with long documents in a single conversation

Timberline now runs on a larger model with a context window of about 131,000 tokens, and it runs privately, like every model in Timberline.

In practice, that means long material can be read in full rather than in pieces. A 134-page manual fits in a single conversation. When a document is larger than the window, Timberline keeps the pages most relevant to your question instead of cutting it off arbitrarily.

Follow-up questions about the same document are also faster, because the document doesn’t need to be processed again for each question.

Sprint 1

July 27 – August 9, 2026

3 updates

  1. Attach documents to a conversation

You can now attach documents to any message and ask Timberline about them directly. Add files with the attach button, drag and drop, or paste, and watch upload progress as they go.

Attachments are handled with the same care as the rest of your work:

    • Timberline stores the text extracted from a document, not the original file.
    • Attachments are deleted with their conversation, including when a conversation reaches the end of its retention period.
    • Files that are uploaded but never sent are cleaned up automatically, so nothing lingers by accident.
  2. A calmer reading experience

Healthcare work means reading carefully, so Timberline should never get in the way of it.

    • Answers appear word by word at a steady pace, and the page no longer scrolls on its own while you read.
    • Formatting applies as text streams in, instead of snapping into place at the end.
    • A redesigned reading surface uses a clearer sans-serif type and gives tables more room.
    • Enter sends a message, and Shift+Enter starts a new line.
  3. A private AI workspace for sensitive healthcare work

Timberline’s workspace gives healthcare teams a private place to ask questions, work through documents, and draft with AI, built from the start for information that can’t go into a public chatbot.

    • Answers stream in as they’re written, with formatting applied as they arrive, and copy out as formatted text.
    • Sign-in runs through your organization’s identity provider, so access follows your existing accounts.
    • Conversations are stored in your Timberline environment rather than in the browser, governed by retention settings, and recorded in an audit trail.

See Timberline in practice.
